Evesham Rowing Club - Squash Section |
General Info.
Teams |
The Evesham Rowing Club has three main sections - rowing, tennis and squash. Other sections include social, table tennis, weights, running, fencing and cricket. This page is devoted to the squash section. The club has three newish courts (rebuilt in November 1998). They had to be replaced due to the flood of Easter 1998 when they were badly flooded (4 feet of water for a couple of days) and as a result, the boards warped very badly. There are two conventional white courts and one court with pastel shades (yellow on the side walls and light green on the front). All three courts have glass doors, but solid rear walls. The lights have recently (July 2000) been replaced with modern high-efficiency types resulting in an amazing improvement in court illumination. The squash section has about 130 active members. It fields teams in the men's', ladies' and veterans' sections of the Hereford and Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire Veterans' squash leagues. The men's' first and second teams are particularly strong at the moment and are holding their own in divisions one and two respectively. The men's' third team (which has a rather relaxed attitude to squash, beers, waistlines, life, etc.) was leading division four for the first half of the season last year, but had difficulty fielding teams towards the end of the second half and was lucky to gain promotion to division three. The ladies team won division two last year and are looking forward to a taxing year in division one. The veterans however are the tour de force, winning all before them. Membership is £105 per annum with a court fee of £1.20 per 45 minute session. This compares particularly well with the rates charged at local sports centres which are charging typically £4.20 per 40 minute session. If you play twice a week, the total yearly cost will come to about £165 a year at the ERC compared with about £250 a year at the local leisure centre. Several tournaments are organised every year. Apart from the Club Championships, we usually run a very popular handicap mixed tournament and sometimes even a handicap mixed doubles tournament. You can find future tournament schedules and previous tournament results in the tournaments page. Other benefits include:
