Coaches
There are many excellent squash coaches at the rowing club. They include:
Richard Avery (SRA Level 2)
Martin Beck
Brett Green (SRA Level 3)
Paul Heneghan (SRA Level 1)
Ed Thorneywork (SRA Level 1)
Enid Walker (SRA Level 3)
Markers
In addition, many of our team players regularly attend a 'top-up' marking course. - These are usually run at Barnt Green by Brian Gurnett.
Code of Conduct for Squash Coaches
Authorised Coaches
Only SRA Registered Coaches, and other persons approved by the Squash Committee are authorised to provide coaching services at the Club for payment. This does not preclude more experienced Club members from sharing their knowledge with other players without charge. Coaches are responsible for maintaining their effectiveness and are encouraged to seek ways of expanding and improving their professional knowledge by participation in SRA approved coaching courses.
Remuneration
Coaches are entitled to proper remuneration for their services. Rates should be published on the Club notice board, and shall be subject to prior approval by the Squash Committee. Coaches are responsible for ensuring that players are aware of and agree to their terms prior to the commencement of coaching sessions. Coaches are permitted the free use of the Squash courts only for bona fide coaching of Club members, and are requested to arrange such sessions out of peak hours.
Safety
Coaches are responsible for the safety of players within their charge, and must take all necessary steps to establish a safe working environment. In particular, they should be aware of and operate in accordance with SRA Technical Information Sheets 12, 13 and 14, relating respectively to Safety on Squash Courts, Safety Code for Squash Players and Eye Protection. The activity being undertaken should be suitable for the age, experience and ability of the players involved. Coaches must be adequately covered by Third Party Insurance, and, if they employ other coaches on Club premises, by Employers Liability Insurance.
Good Practice
Coaches are expected at all times to maintain the highest standards of personal and professional behaviour, and to act in the best interests of the player and the Club. They must operate in accordance with the Club's commitments to Equal Opportunities and Child Protection. A Coach must not attempt to exert undue influence over a player in order to obtain personal benefit or reward.
Advertising
Coaches must ensure that all advertising is accurate. Permission to display advertising on Club premises should previously be obtained from the Squash Committee. Coaches are responsible both to players and to fellow coaches, and should not under any circumstances solicit business from any other coach or club. Coaches should not publicly criticise their fellow coaches.
Confidentiality
Coaches shall not divulge information about a player to a third party without the express approval of the player. They may, at the request of players, co-operate with medical practitioners in the diagnosis, treatment and management of players' medical problems.
