Ladders

We run standard challenge ladders for men and ladies.  These are displayed on the notice board in the squash gallery.

Note: The ladders will be used as the basis of the ranking list submitted for the winter and summer leagues.

Here are the rules:

  1. Players may challenge up to five places above.
  2. Matches should be decided on a "best of five games" basis.  International rules apply (up to nine; server scores).  If the  match is unfinished at the end of the session, then it counts as an unsuccessful challenge.  However, if a court is free, and both players agree, they may play on to a conclusion.
  3. If the challenger wins the match, then the winner will take the loser's place, with the loser and all intermediate players moving down one place. Otherwise their positions remain unchanged.
  4. When a challenge has been issued, both players must make EVERY effort to play the match within a reasonable timescale - say three weeks.  If a player seems to be avoiding a challenge, let the committee know.
  5. If a player refuses a valid challenge, then that player loses the challenge by default.
  6. If two players arrange to play a match and one player fails to turn up at the agreed time, then the player who fails to turn up loses the match by default.
  7. Any person wishing to join the ladder must join at the bottom.  However, one unrestricted challenge (i.e. not limited to the 'five places above' rule) is permitted.
  8. When a person wishes to leave the ladder (for whatever reason), their name is removed from the ladder and everyone below moves up a place.
  9. Women can play in both the men’s and the women’s ladder if they choose.
  10. Any match played under tournament conditions both at the club, and away from it, will also count as a challenge - provided the players are within the necessary challenge distance.
  11. The official up-to-date ladder along with a record of past matches can be found on the notice board in the squash gallery.
