Minutes for Meeting of 14th September, 1998


1. Present Kath Cowell, Mike Francis, Jimmy Harrison, Paul Heneghan, Brian Ireland, George Oxley, Christina Todd, Gray Wilson
2. Apologies Tony Arthur, Rod Gough, Lucie Garstang, Clive Simons, Enid Walker
3. Minutes of Meeting of 26th August The minutes were agreed and signed.
4. Matters Arising (6) Clive has sent the fixture info. to Tony. Tony's fixture schedule is under way. Tony will report back after the fixtures meeting on Wednesday.
(10) There will be a reduction in the squash membership fee for existing members from £95 to £55 for the 1998/99 membership year. There are three players from the Evesham Leisure Centre who joined the ERC squash section just before the flood and therefore never played a game. Jimmy will find out the details and report back.
5. Correspondence Gray has entered the veterans into the SRA Over 45 National Competition.
Are SRA members entitled to play at the club?
Gray was asked to organise an Over 55 county team. A plug to the executive committee might be appropriate.
Minutes of meetings and a committee member list should be on the squash notice board.
6. Courts Court 1 will have a light green front wall, yellow side walls and a white rear wall. Junkers flooring will be used throughout. The wood will be unsealed beech. New backboards throughout.
Brian to do a company search on Watson Brook.
Courts to be renumbered starting at changing room end; i.e. car park end court will become court no. 3.
Courts need to be painted above out-of-court lines.
New bulbs and starters need to be fitted and some missing diffusers replaced. Quotes to be obtained from John Parry for tubes, diffusers, new units etc.
Thanks to Rod Gough, Mike Francis, Paul Heneghan and others for all the work preparing the courts.
7. League Entries Men's 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams are in the 1st, 2nd and 5th divisions respectively.
Ladies team is in division 2.
Vets 1st and 2nd teams are in division 1 and 3 respectively in the Gloucestershire leagues.
Match fees are to be kept to £1.
Brian will order some squash balls for matches.
8. Court Reopening Schools need to be approached (6th form options).
Racket ball should be introduced
Tennis balls and outside footwear will NOT be allowed.
Publicity to be obtained in the following:
  • Evesham Journal
  • The Bear
  • Fliers
  • Sports shops
  • Mail shots
  • Local shops
Open day to be organised.
